Eileen Brady,
Unleashed
(Poisoned Pen Press, 2015)

Eileen Brady's Unleashed is an excellent mystery! An engaging protagonist (who happens to be a veterinarian), well-drawn secondary characters, descriptive locations and a complex plot drew me in immediately and had me turning pages eagerly.

Although this is the second book in the series, it's not at all hard to pick up the relevant events from the first book, and without any spoilers for it. I am now looking forward to reading the first book, too!

The resolution does seem pretty abrupt, and somewhat coincidental -- she figures out the murderer, and, as if psychic, he shows up and tries to kill her. That made me pause. There is also a red herring that distracts one from the rest of the case, and it makes little sense once the plot congeals.

Still, the plot mostly makes sense, even in retrospect -- and I value that, since too many mysteries do NOT manage this! In short, it's a fun mystery, and I recommend it to people who enjoy such.
