Lenore: Noogies
by Roman Dirge (Slave Labor, 1999)

Oh, this is great.

Lenore is a "cute little dead girl" whose world is peopled with the odd, the macabre and the absurd. Creator Roman Dirge's imagination must be a dark and surreal place, because this book is endlessly fun in a dark and morbid way.

Lenore often finds herself in creepy circumstances -- and yet, even the most mundane of afternoon outings turns darkly funny. Like when she babysits for a neighbor and takes the infant on a walk through the park. Or when she volunteers to assist a magician on stage. Or when her hair from the bathtub drain comes to life and looks for love from its creator.

Noogies also introduces Lenore's adorable supporting cast, including her erstwhile suitor, Mr. Gosh, and her doll, Ragamuffin, which is possessed by the eternal soul of a vampire. We learn why she cannot keep a (live) cat, and OH MY GOD wait 'til you read the chapter with the hamsters.

Lenore is simply awesome.
