Lilt,
Little Falls
(Lockhouse, 2013)

For this, their third CD, the duo of Tina Eck and Keith Carr -- performing as Lilt -- invited a number of outstanding guest artists to join them for what can only be described as a treat for fans of traditional Irish music and contemporary music inspired by that genre.

Also a first -- the album includes a vocal by Keith and Eileen Estes on "Waterbound," a song written by Dirk Powell. The 14 tracks include a spread of jigs, reels and polkas sure to get the listener's feet tapping if not inspired to dance.

Eck and Carr have been performing together since meeting some years ago and finding their personalities and instruments compatible. Guests joining them for this album, in addition to Keith and Eileen Estes, are Graham DeZarn, fiddle; Josh Dukes, guitar and bodhran; Shannon Dunne, sean-nos dance; Conor Hearn, guitar; and Kristen Jones, cello.

Eck, who received a Maryland State Arts Council grant for solo world music performance in 2011, plays the Irish wooden flute and tin whistle and has performed widely at festivals and concerts around the Washington area. She has honed her technique in visits to Ireland.

Carr sings and plays the 10-string Irish bouzouki, tenor banjo and mandolin. He's had classical training in trumpet and piano and performed for many years as a guitarist. Both he and Eck are on the faculty of the Washington Conservatory of Music program at Glen Echo Park. In the past year, they've performed in New York, Connecticut, Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.
