Joseph J. Neuschatz, TerrO.R. (Booklocker, 2006) Dr. Joseph J. Neuschatz is an expert in his field, so his fictional thriller TerrO.R. may well be an actual description of his experiences in the medical profession. The story is set primarily inside the operation room of a hospital. Dr. Philip Newman, the main character, is an anesthesiologist who encounters a variety of cases, some of which have a disastrous ending: death during anesthesia. The first case described involves the removal of a tattoo, and readers will learn a lot about the process. The author gives all the horrid details of the procedure so the readers can easily identify with him and actually "see" the operation as it happens. TerrO.R. is a spine-chilling story that may deter some of the readers from having operations! But what is it like to be an anesthesiologist? The author follows the daily schedule of Dr. Newman and lets readers get acquainted with his immediate family, including his wife Kyra and some of his friends. Written in a fast-paced and simple way, this story is the perfect read for thriller fans and those who love medical cases. The characters read true, and the story reads more like a nonfiction account than fiction. It is entertaining and terrifying at times, giving readers the chance to experience the stress of the occupation. |
