Queen Bees,
directed by Michael Lembeck
(Gravitas, 2021)

Helen Wilson's only going to be at the Pine Grove retirement center for a little while -- just for the time her home is going to be remodeled. She's fiercely independent and she doesn't need a "home."

Worse, when she gets there, she realizes the place is dominated by a table of mean-spirited Queen Bees -- which is just like the cliques from her high school days, and she wants no part of it. Yet, she gets involved with bridge and a handsome man, and maybe the delays for remodeling do not bother her so much after all....

Ellen Burstyn is our protagonist Helen, and she's beset by mean girls Janet Poindexter (Jane Curtin), Margot Clark (Ann-Marget) and Sally Hanson (Loretta Devine). James Caan as Dan and Christopher Lloyd as Arthur round out the main cast.

Queen Bees is a humorous and enlightening tale about growing older. I thoroughly enjoyed the rental but not sure it's something I would choose to watch again.
