A Green Day
by Terry Lee Getz

This is a limited edition, one-shot zine by the editor of Pisces Rising. It is a quarter-sized, lime-green booklet on cardstock with color illustrations that follow the story of a fictional "Henry" character who wakes up to find the world has gone green.

It is very short, more like an artist's book than a zine, and descriptions won't do it justice. It must be seen to be believed. Getz includes stamped images along with her photographs and poetry, and a special sticker of Henry's face at the beginning for you to use anywhere you'd like.

Actually, they aren't Getz's photos at all. The story of how the zine came about is almost more interesting than the zine itself. (Note I said "almost.") To quote the introduction, "This zine was created as a result of my addiction to collecting and viewing other people's slides that I find at estate sales. During a recent attempt at sorting and categorizing thousands of images, I ran across several that had turned green. I imagined that the day had actually turned green when the photos were shot...."

From there, the story launches.

This is a charming little zine. The price results from the color illustrations and hand work, and although some might not feel that it's worth its price, A Green Day is one of those small projects that can really help jumpstart your creativity when your mood or drive is low. Seeing everyday objects in a new light, so to speak.

And a side benefit? The paper is so bright that when you look away, the rest of the world has a rosy glowing afterimage. You don't even need rose-colored glasses to see it.
