Night 2 at the Gaelic College of Arts & Crafts, Festival Club, St. Ann's, Cape Breton (9 October 2011) There were many acts that were amazing tonight, but there are two that stick out in my mind the most. The first was the cast of Cape Breton Idol: The Foolish Edition. They were hilarious. It was fun to see people performing as late fiddle greats Niel Gow, James Scott Skinner (who was wearing a bra on his head) and Winston Fitzgerald, as well as people who are alive today, which included Wendy MacIsaac as Theresa MacLellan. They all portrayed the characters perfectly and it was nice to hear them play a blast of tunes together. The second act that got the crowd hopping, literally, was Kimberley Fraser with Mac Morin, Dave MacIsaac and festival newcomer Nic Gareiss. People got up and did a massive square set at the front of the stage and when Gareiss showed his steps, everyone was in awe of the rhythms he could create with his feet and fit them to the tune so perfectly. It was incredible, and I can't wait for more. |
