Shirley Damsgaard, Ophelia & Abby #2: Charmed to Death (Avon, 2006) Ophelia is a librarian. She also just happens to be a psychic and a witch. She inherited her mystical gifts indirectly from her grandmother, Abby, who also lives in the same small town as Ophelia. Charmed to Death is the second book in Shirley Damsgaard's Ophelia & Abby series, which combines the tea-cosy mystery genre with modern witchcraft. Five years ago, Ophelia left her librarian job in Iowa City because she foresaw the murder of her friend Brian ... and she couldn't prevent it. Now, the murders are coming to her -- she knows it and is afraid the same thing will happen again. Worse, Henry Comancho, the detective who worked Brian's case, is in town, and he suspects Ophelia of at least knowing something about the crimes. This is an interesting and well-paced book about modern witches with a lot at stake. I'm looking forward to reading next in the series. |
