Tate Hallaway,
Garnet Lacey #4: Dead If I Do
(Berkley, 2009)

Garnet Lacey is a Wiccan who just happens to share her body with the goddess Lilith. After running from a massacre orchestrated by a group of Vatican witch hunters, Garnet has been living her life and practicing her craft in Madison, Wisconsin.

Garnet is all consumed with her upcoming nuptials to her vampire boyfriend, Sebastian. After a disastrous introduction to her parents, the wedding plans slowly begin to fall apart. Soon it becomes clear that the crumbling plans are more than mere coincidence; Garnet is convinced that her wedding is cursed.

With the wedding date nearing and the actual event looking impossible to pull off, Garnet and Sebastian are forced to deal with their pasts before they can start their future together. But, just when you think things can't possibly get worse, they do. Garnet is put to the test time and time again and she is able to harness the strength that her inner Lilith gives her, all the while trying to make sure Lilith doesn't come fully unleashed. We also learn a little more about Sebastian, and some of it isn't pretty.

Magic and hilarity abound in this latest story. Garnet is no Bridezilla, but Lilith would love her to be. There isn't a sedentary moment in this tale; each page is filled with action, magic or a little vampire/witch lovin'. Tate Hallway continues her trend of conjuring a fantastic read filled with colorful characters, giggles and just enough hocus pocus to make it impossible to set down. The minute I finish a Garnet Lacey story I am already looking forward to the next one.
