Kim Harrison, Rachel Morgan #4: A Fistful of Charms (HarperTorch, 2006) In the first 20 pages of A Fistful of Charms, Rachel Morgan is challenged by a werewolf for the leadership of her two-person pack. (Note: She's not a lycanthrope, she only joined for the benefits of the health insurance, which she really needs in her profession). Rachel quickly discovers she's going to have to "were" to keep defending herself, and the only way she can see to "get fuzzy" is to do some demon magic, which is bad juju for a white witch. Next, she discovers that Jax, the son of her ex-partner -- the pixie, Jenks -- is collaborating with Rachel's ex-boyfriend Nick, and she suspects they're working together as thieves. She and Jenks are hot on the rescue. A Fistful of Charms is the fourth book in Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series. The action is fast-paced, with a good amount of wit. I like the introspection in this novel. I'm very much looking forward to the next. |
