Mountain Thyme,
It's About Thyme
(independent, 2015)

Mountain Thyme is a long-lived band (formed in 1982 and, so far as I can tell, still kicking) that performs Appalachian Celtic music from their West Virginia homeland.

The album is a mix of Irish- and Scottish-rooted music, as well as some original material, boosting some gorgeous vocal harmonies. The music is thoroughly pleasant -- mostly laid back and relaxing. (In fact, I've used this album on more than a few occasions to lull a couple of 6-year-olds to sleep!)

The band is Pam Curry (bouzouki, octave mandolin, autoharp, vocals), Jan Carroll (wooden flute, silver flute, whistles, vocals), Libby Musser (bass, piano, vocals) and Linda Workman (guitar, djembe, vocals), with guests Cathy Grant (fiddle), producer Ritchie Collins (percussion, nylon string guitar, harmonica) and Steve French (snare drum, percussion).

The band's arrangement of "Crested Hens" is particularly beautiful. The album overall is good stuff, good for kicking back with a book and a beverage.
