Marlene VerPlanck, I Give Up, I'm In Love (Audiophile, 2014) Marlene VerPlanck's I Give Up, I'm In Love contains wonderful jazz vocals, with tight backup that really shows off both her voice and the skills of the musicians. I love both the minimalist songs here, and the ones that have more of a full-orchestra swing feel. Especially on the more swingy numbers, there's more room for improvisation from the musicians, and that adds a lot to the total effect. It's a fun and enjoyable album, with many catchy pieces, and all of which are engaging. |
