Ernie Watts Quartet, A Simple Truth (Flying Dolphin, 2014) A Simple Truth is a very pleasant album with excellent jazz musicianship by the Ernie Watts Quartet! I am very fond of the saxophone, and most of these cuts show it off both in its tone and in the skill displayed -- not that the other musicians do less. I especially liked the various interactions between all the members of the quartet, all of whom worked very well together. While this album stands up well to dedicated listening, it's mild-mannered enough to be an attractive score to us while we go about our normal lives. |
