Brigette DeMeyer has sung in groups ranging from blues and soul to country and rock. This has helped her develop her unique style that has traces of many genres. Backed by some very good musicians she has produced Another Thousand Miles, a very good album with emotional renditions of primarily self-penned songs.

"Another Thousand Miles," one of my favourites, is a simple song about failed love. DeMeyer sings it with great feeling and the backing is just right for the emotion involved. "We're All Goin' In" speeds things up slightly and is a lovely story-song that grabs us with the first line: "I've been called a sinner by my next of kin." We are drawn along wondering where this is going.

"Rooftop," according to the information pack, was written following the death of her father. Having this piece of knowledge opens up the song. DeMeyer shows her ability to interpret other writers on "Already Gone," written by Chris Rossbach. And the fabulously titled "Sycamore Sadie" is an excellent song that draws us along with the narrative.

This is an very good debut album that should increase audiences for DeMeyer's live gigs. As with so many such albums, the content is excellent but suffers because it is unfamiliar. Give this future star a start, get the CD, give it a few spins and I think she will pick up more than a few fans.
