The Guild by Felicia Day, Jim Rugg (Dark Horse, 2010) Felicia Day is a woman of many talents. Add "comic-book writer" to the list. Playing off the success of her lively webseries, The Guild, Day has carried her stable of dysfunctional game addicts onto the printed page, courtesty of Dark Horse Comics and with the aid of artist Jim Rugg. This collected miniseries is a prequel to the web show, explaining the background of Cyd Sherman (Day), how she started gaming, how she met the other members of the Knights of Good (online, silly, not IRL!) and why she set her ex-boyfriend's cello on fire. It's a fun little book. Day has captured her characters perfectly (of course), and Rugg does a fine job of transporting them to the page. The story may entertain folks who've never sat glued to their monitor as the Guild's adventures unfold; those who've watched and rewatched the series (as I have) will find this book indispensable. Oh, and Felicia: Is there anything you can't do? |
