Hack/Slash: Omnibus by Tim Seeley, various artists (Devil's Due, 2008) This omnibus edition of the Hack/Slash series contains the same material found in volumes 1-3 of the collected editions: First Cut, Death by Sequel and Friday the 31st, plus a couple additions. The first is the previously unpublished poem "Slashing Through the Snow," which bends the art of Mike O'Sullivan and Steve Seeley to a holiday romp about the serial killer Rudoph ... who finds more than he bargained for in his stocking this year. The more substantial addition to the omnibus is "Hack/Slash Vs. Evil Ernie," a crossover tale with another Devil's Due property. Evil Ernie is, well, as bad as his name implies, and Cassie and Vlad interrupt his stripper-killing spree. In the process, Ernie dips his mind into Cassie's thoughts and falls deeply, madly in love with her. You know this will end badly. I'm not a big fan of Aadi Salman's style of art in this chapter, although -- fair's fair -- it does suit Ernie's fractured personality to a T. |
