Ms. Marvel #2: Civil War by Brian Reed, Robert de la Torre, Mike Wieringo (Marvel Comics, 2007)
The conflict sets Iron Man's pro-Registration team against Captain America's stout-hearted opposition. Ms. Marvel chooses the side of the law and quickly finds herself fighting former friends and allies in an all-out effort to catch and incarcerate the rebels. That said, this is by no means a vital chapter in the Civil War storyline, although it does neatly demonstrate how choosing sides in the war is hardly a moral absolute. This collection also includes two separate stories. In one, Ms. Marvel must deal with Rogue, with whom she has a long and unpleasant personal history, as well as her own insane counterpart from another dimension. In the other, a boy who can turn stories into reality messes with Ms. Marvel's powers -- and, once again, Ms. Marvel may end up doing more harm than good. The ongoing Ms. Marvel series still has not entirely won me over, but I am still intrigued by this flagship character who has incredible powers and the finest of intentions, but remains deeply flawed in her ability to do the job right. ![]() |
