Mark Thompson,
101 Facts You Didn't Know About Space
(Pen & Sword, 2020)

This book is fascinating.

Author Mark Thompson has compiled a bunch of cool facts (you can guess how many from the title) about different aspects of space, and he presents them here in a series of brief, quick to read and easily digestible chapters. The very youngest readers might be overwhelmed by the science, but older children and adults alike should enjoy reading these one- and two-page tidbits about the world beyond our world.

Page through the book and you'll be astonished by some of the gorgeous photographs that illustrate it. And you'll learn a lot about astronomy, physics, space exploration and why it's hard to have sex in zero gravity.

What types of stars spin 700 times a second? Thompson has the answer. What would happen if you fell into a black hole? Thompson knows. What kinds of animals have been sent into space, and what happened to them? Thompson will tell you. How much would a teaspoon of neutron star weigh? Which planet in our solar system almost became its own star? When will the Milky Way collide with the Andromeda galaxy? Guess where you can find out!

I really enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed sharing some of the more interesting trivia with my wife, and I boiled down some of the concepts for my 7-year-old twins. There's a lot to learn about the universe, and 101 Facts You Didn't Know About Space will get you started in an entertaining but informative way.
