Dracula Blows His Cool,
directed by Carl Schenkel
(Martin Films, 1982)

If you can get your hands on the soundtrack for Dracula Blows His Cool, get it. This hilarious movie has the coolest theme song in the horror genre, "Rock Me Dracula," performed in the movie by Italian twins Nadia and Antonella Cocconcelli, aka Mokka.

Stan (Gianni Garko), the great-grandson of Dracula, is a struggling photographer who is trying to save the family castle from creditors. He moves in and opens a "Disco Dungeon," financed by an odd trio: Mario (Giacomo Rizzo), Mousie (Bea Fiedler) and the mayor, S.W. Dumphammer (Alexander Husen).

During the daytime, Stan works on his photographs with his assistants, Freddy (Herbet Stiny) and Chubby (Toby Meister), and his three models: Linda (Linda Grondier), Georgie (Georgina Steer) and Laurie (Laurence Kaeserman).

Count Dracula (Garco) and Countess Olivia (Betty Verges) are in the cellar. They have promised to not come upstairs as long as Boris (Ralph Wolter) brings blood to them. Boris has been stealing blood from the local blood drives, but this time, he got caught by the schoolteacher, Mrs. Nutcracker (Ellen Umlauf), and only got one bag. That was, in the words of Dracula, "not enough to feed a mosquito."

As Nutcracker and her assistant, Dan (Dan van Husen) try to get the castle closed, the count and countess are venturing up the stairs. Stan is identical to Dracula and everybody in the castle assumes that Dracula is Stan -- even Stan's girlfriend, Linda. Stan's mother, Mrs. van Screw (Herta Worell), tries to warn everybody to stay in their rooms with the doors locked, but nobody listens.

Dracula Blows His Cool is a fantastic comedy that will leave you rolling with laughter. It is extremely well-written with plenty of minute details that tie the subplots into the main plot in multiple ways. It all weaves back and forth for a totally engrossing story.

The characters are all exorbitant with their personalities. Whatever their style or type, they are at the maximum level with it. They were magnificently created by the writers and are brought to life with great passion and conviction by the cast.

Everything about this movie is fantastic ... and fun. There is nothing scary, although there are many tense moments. More than anything else, you will feel sympathy for the vampires, especially poor Olivia. She is definitely not a huntress. While her hubby is gorging on a beautiful, young woman, she is getting smacked in the mouth with a fish ... and she hates fish! Life is never easy for the fairer of the sexes!

If you like vampire movies, you need to get Dracula Blows His Cool. It is 91 minutes of solid, rib-tickling entertainment filled with twists, turns and people that go bump in the night. It is one of my most beloved and frequently watched vampire movies.
