Mail Order Wife,
directed by Huck Botko & Andrew Garland
(DEE/CRF Productions, 2005)

Mail Order Wife is an independent documentary that won Best Independent Feature Film at the 2005 Santa Barbara Film Festival.

The film production company selected Adrian, a doorman from Queens, New York, to participate in the creation of this documentary. They agreed to pay the costs of the matchmaking fees, travel and so forth in exchange for his full participation and cooperation with the movie.

Adrian looks through a catalogue supplied by Paradise Girls, an international matchmaking company, and he selects a woman from Burma named Lichi. When he pays the fees, he is given her address. The rest is up to him.

After three months of correspondence, Adrian sponsors Lichi with a K-1 marriage visa. She flies to America and the rollercoaster, fireworks, insanity and comedy begin.

I do not want to give away any more of the details than this because it will affect your viewing experience. You need to see this film without having any idea of what's coming next. It will shock you beyond belief. It takes some strange turns. It will stir emotions deep within you and provide material for countless hours of coffee shop discussion.

I urge you to watch this movie. It is worth its weight in gold simply for its value as a thought-provoking conversation starter. It is one of those movies that require you to discuss it with somebody. It makes you debate how you really feel about many issues in today's culture. Do American men really just want a handy-dandy little housekeeper-type slave? Do Asian women search for American men to get them a green card? How much regulation should the government have in these matters?

Mail Order Wife is a must see!
