Someone is Watching,
directed by Douglas Jackson
(Legend Entertainment, 1999)

Someone is Watching is one of the most suspenseful movies I have seen in years. It scared the bejeezus out of me.

Michelle Dupre (Stefanie Powers) caught a burglar in her home but could not pull the trigger on the pistol that she had pointed at him. It traumatized her so badly that she moved to a different town.

Now, barely moved in, she begins having several problems. Her ex-boyfriend Charles Jensen (Barry Flatman) is trying to shove his way back into her life. She is being stalked by somebody, but she does not know who. Her next-door neighbor has a disturbed adult son who is playing peeping tom at her house. And her house is making strange noises.

Michelle's 6-year-old adopted son, Cory (Mickey Toft) has a new imaginary friend, BJ, who lives in Cory's closet. Sally Beckert (Margot Kidder) baby-sits Cory and hears BJ moving around upstairs, but nobody will believe her.

Sally's psychic friend, Rebecca (Pamela Witcher) tries to warn Michelle that there's an evil presence in the house, but who ever listens to psychics?

Someone is Watching is a superb Canadian film that keeps you in suspense -- spine-tingling, heart-pounding, nail-biting suspense.

I love the camera work. Some of the photographic effects are mind-boggling, visually stimulating explorations of kinetics. A couple of times you feel as if you are free falling into a scene. It engages all your senses.

The acting is superb. Even the minor parts are brilliant. Witcher does a magnificent job as the psychic. She makes you feel her fear and frustration. All the parts are exceptionally well-acted with lots of energy, emotion, and expression.

The musical score is great. It does a nice job of supporting the action and heightening the suspense. The writing was crafted with attention to detail. It flows smoothly all the way through.

If you enjoy suspense, you won't go wrong with Someone is Watching. It is a great one.
