9 June 2012
| Goodbye, and rest easy.
| Those of you who know me or follow me on Facebook know I've been going through a difficult time as my grandmother's health declined in recent weeks. She died this past Monday, and the week since has been filled with a mixture of grief, funeral preparations and time with family. I have eulogized my grandmother as best I can in the following essay, which is all I have to offer our readers this week; our normal schedule of updates will resume June 16.
Gram: a life lived well
... by Tom Knapp, Rambles.NET editor |
2 June 2012
| Happy anniversary to us!
| It was 13 years ago, on May 30, that Rambles.NET made its first foray into online reviews. I'd had a bad experience with another online review site and decided to go off on my own. Here were are, seemingly a lifetime later, and Rambles is finally a teenager. What fun it's been! We've had quite a few folks from around the world writing for us over the years -- some of whom departed far too quickly, others who've been with us for solid years of reviewing. We've accumulated more than 14,000 reviews on this site, quite a respectable number. And we have no plans of stopping any time soon.
Do you ever visit the archives?? I don't. Every time a new update goes up, I begin to think about the next one, and I don't spend much time reading back over prior editions. But they're all there, dating back to May 30, 1999. Wow, we looked a lot different back then. We launched with a backlog of 200 reviews already in place; back then, with more ambition than sense, I posted new reviews to the site daily. Later, I shifted to the more sensible weekly schedule that we still maintain today. Most weeks, we have something new for you to peruse, and we try to keep the site fairly current, relevant and interesting.
We hope you like it.
Remember, if you make purchases at Amazon through our links, you'll help support the operation of this site. Also, if you'd like to join the team, drop us a line and we'll chat; we're always looking for good writers to share their opinions with the world. And hey, spread the word and let folks know we're here! Post a link on Facebook, tweet us, blog about us, whatever you like, but we enjoy knowing people are stopping by to read what we have to say.
We don't plan on going anywhere, so bookmark this page and drop by often. Cheers!
- Tom Knapp, Rambles.NET editor
